Breaking Down The 2020 DJ Mag Top 100

It’s been a really strange year for the music market. With COVID-19 being announced a global outbreak in March, the live event industry was decimated, with barely any shows for the past 8 months. With the exception of drive-in shows, live streams, and also a few newer shows in states including Florida where matters have opened (for better or worse), it was a really sedentary season for our live performers.

Such a chaotic international event definitely had an effect on this year’s DJ Mag Top 100 rankings, with huge movements all around the board. Tons of DJs climbed, many dropped, and there were several, several new entries on the list. Largest of Tiësto dropped from the Top 10 for first time as 2004 and David Guetta reclaimed his #1 spot for the very first time because 2011.

But further down the list, there’s still plenty to be talked about.

Girls rule

Last year, eight women from the 100 manufacturers were women. This is an improvement over 2018, but still not good enough. (Four women made it around the DJ Mag Top 100 in 2017. That amount climbed to six in 2018. ) This season, that amount grew to 12 with the additions of ANNA, Deborah De Luca, Nora En Pure, and Rezz. Best of all, a woman was the maximum climber this calendar year, as it was Alison Wonderland last calendar year. Charlotte de Witte moved up 42 spots to land in 32.

New entries galore

With so many DJs struggling to perform shows this season, many, several new entries on the Top 100 were able to create their way in. From the 100-81 bracket independently, there are 13 new names. In general, you will find 18 new names around the Top 100 this season, eclipsing last year’s relatively meager 12 new entries, with Rezz coming in as the greatest new entry, securing the #57 place.

Names like Jamie Jones, Green Velvet, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, and Nora En Pure, among others, also ultimately create their murderous debut on the list.

Significant motion in the Top 10

For the very first time since 2004, Tiësto is from their top 10 in what’s probably the biggest shake up of this year on the list. He’s currently placed in 16, a far cry from #8 final year.

Two names grace the top 10, with Timmy Trumpet coming in at #10 and Alok eventually breaking through as Brazil’s biggest DJ, which makes it all the way to #5. Don Diablo dominates his #6 place, but Oliver Heldens is transferred down a peg as Steve Aoki moves up 1, Afrojack moves 2, and Armin van Buuren stays at #4.

Martin Garrix moves all the way down to #3 after losing the top spot last year, after his record breaking 3-year conduct, to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike who afford to remain in the next place just behind this calendar year ’s recently crowned top DJ, David Guetta.
