Love him or hate him, everyone seems to have an opinion on DJ Plugsy, the helmet-headed EDM bro and British answer to Marshmello along with Deadmaus.
This time , the mystical DJ — he doesn’t disclose his name — seemed set to take on the entire world with his drop-tastic dancing music along with also a packed summer schedule of festivals, raves and club sets following the release of his 2019 debut album ‘Three Pronged Attack’, that consolidated the success of early EPs ‘Volting Ambition’ along with followup ‘Ample’ EP.
Rather, the pandemic broke out, the world closed up and Plugsy discovered himself rattling around his home trying his best to recapture that which he insists on calling his “vida loca”.
Back in January, NME agreed to produce a documentary series on Plugsy’s breakthrough year. Rather, something quite different started to take shape — a fly-on-the-wall, frequently self-shot bit capturing the absurdity of life as a DJ in lockdown having a large three-pin-plug helmet. We predict it DJ Plugsy: Locked Down, Plugged In.
No stranger to controversy, Plugsy says he hopes that the series will help his most critics see that the human being behind the flex. “I don’t wish to seem moist,” he informs NME, “Because most of us know water and electricity don’t mix. However, I think it’s great that people may observe that DJs with helmets on are people too, you know? It’s not all of Henny and USB sticks, so you know. ”
Plugsy’s main coping mechanism was to throw himself to his job. After he wasn’t working on upcoming next album ‘Socket 2 Me’a conceptual bit about the nature of sound itself, Plugsy spent much of the year broadcasting to lovers, even acting soundless “Plugsy Unplugged” sessions.
DJ Plugsy interview: grounded — exactly what ’therefore it like for an EDM DJ in lockdown?
He also now credits video game Fuser with providing him a feeling of hope back, presuming that its diversion of the dancing festival experience is so realistic, so it may be considered treatment for people in his position. “It’s not shy to need to stay up on a stage and have people you’t never met scream your name,” he says. “It’s just science. ”
Bearing that in mind, Plugsy is throwing his weight behind A Stocking For A Jockeyhis very own online fundraiser targeted at raising enough funds to buy every masked DJ a replica of Fuser plus a PS5 Photograph that Christmas.
